*Last Sunday meal with Elder Reyes who leaves for Ponce.
Elder Maynes was a Mission President in Mexico and shared a story about how there was this guy that found a Book of Mormon and didn't know where it came from or what it was. He statred to read it and felt the power of the Book of Mormon. He started teaching his family members and they were all learning about the revelations given to the ancient American Indians from God. One day the book was nowhere to be found and it got lost. He didn't know where to find another one or who to ask. For 27 years he would ask missionaries from OTHER churches if they had a book that talked about Jesus Christ coming to the Americans and speaking to the Indians and they would say no. He asked this question for 27 years until finally Elder Maynes as a Mission President decides to open up a new area. The missionaries were put in that area and were knocking doors like crazy and they came to the door of this man and his family. The man asked the same question he had been asking for the past 27 years...and the missionaries smiled and said YES. The man was soooo happy. THREE generations of his family were baptized together. It was a cool story!
The other story was that Elder Russell M. Nelson was visiting the poorest place in the world - which is found in Africa. The Saints there were very faithful. Even if they had nothing they were very faithful and grateful. The ward had a goal to make sure every family had at least one good meal everyday. They also were giving lots of fast offerings and sending them to Salt Lake. Elder Nelson asked the Bishop why they would send the money to Salt Lake when they could use the fast offerings for the ward? The man responded saying..."We send our fast offerings to Salt Lake hoping to help people that are in more of need than us." These people had nothing but understood that they had everying with the Restored Gospel.
I know that Elder Maynes and Elder Andersen were called by God. I remember sitting and listening to them and I just thought how cool it would be to be around them more often to talk to them and learn from them.
Ok well I love you all! Have a good week!
