Mom and Dad,
This week was amazing for the zone. It was stake conference on Saturday and Sunday. We broke our record with people in church for the zone. We had 23 investigators and we have planned 10 baptisms for the zone next week! We can achieve our goal which is exciting! We have one planned for next week, (Christian) He is so excited and he can't wait for this Saturday. We took our investigators to the conference and they were great messages! One of them stood out to me and hit me hard! Elder Martinez of the the Seventy spoke to us and he told us a story when he was on his mission. He was teaching a man and the missionaries told him to save his questions til the end and have them teach. During the lesson the man wanted to ask him 1 question and he was begging to ask it so the missionaries said whatever... The man asked them how Christ died?
Missionary: on a cross
Investigator: NO your wrong, he died with his hands placed together on a piece of wood.
Missionary: Do you know what type of wood christ died on?
Investigator: No but I want to know - can you tell me?
Missionary: I don't either - do you know what kind of nails they used and how long they were?Investigator: No I don't know but I would like to know.
Missionary: I don't either, BUT what I do know is WHY he died for me. He died for me so I can be free from sin, that he can help me in my trials, my sadness, my sickneses, he died for me because he loves me and he wants me to return to his presence and live with him again with our Father in Heaven. He did ALL of that for you too. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died for you and he loves you and knows your trials. What is better - to have a knowledge of HOW he died or WHY he died?
I feel as if alot of people want so much detail on so many things like what does heaven look like, or how did this happen or where did it happen rather than the WHY it happened. They are losing the point of the gospel and they are not enjoying the blessings of it because their mind is all in the details and not in the promises! Thomas S. Monson told us that if we read the Book of Mormon we will have a better understanding of the atonement because we will be protected from the harm of this world. We need to read the scriptures not for the details of the stories. We need to read the scriptures to apply the message it contains. Details don't get us into heaven- applying the gospel in our lives from the scriptures gets us into heaven!
Jose Angel is very excited. He gives us rides everywhere. In Stake conference they annouced that he will be receiving the Melchezideck priesthood and after the service I participated in giving him the Melchezideck Priesthood! DOPE!!!
Can't believe how insane this is - next month Cody will be home. Its our LAST phone call home. I have 3 moths left! Its going by too quick and now I feel very comfortable where I'm at as a missionary. I finally have that feeling of confidence to work in the field and now I'm about to leave! I think thats why its hard to start your mission because we feel so unprepared and its hard to leave your mission because you finally learned how to be a preach my gospel missionary and now you have to go! The only things we can do now after the mission is apply what we learned. because if we don't then this whole thing would have been a waste!
I'm glad Sydney is doing great! Tell her Felicitaciones and don't waste your money on Netflix and stupid itunes! (just use dads spotify account and rob him like me and Cody did before the mission) HAHA!!
Can't wait to see you on sunday!!! love you!
